About Joan Squires

Joan Squires, President, Omaha Performing Arts

Joan Squires has served as President of Omaha Performing Arts since her arrival in Omaha in 2002, launching and developing Omaha Performing Arts into the largest arts organization in Nebraska with an operating budget of over $22 million. She oversees the Holland Performing Arts Center and the Orpheum Theater where Omaha Performing Arts presents a wide variety of performances in Broadway, dance, jazz, popular, family, world music, speakers, and more, as well as extensive education and community engagement programs.  Omaha Performing Arts reaches almost 500,000 per year with an annual economic impact of over $40 million.  
 
A native of Pennsylvania, Joan holds master’s degrees in both Music and Business Administration from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College, PA.  She has worked in arts management for 30 years, previously holding leadership positions for the Phoenix Symphony and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra among others.  


Joan is a voting member for Broadway’s Tony Awards, and was recently elected to the Broadway League Board of Governors.  She is active in numerous professional organizations and has spoken at various national conferences.  A past president of the Performing Arts Center Consortium and past president of Arts Omaha, she is a recipient of the Governor’s Arts Award, was named to the Ak-Sar-Ben Court of Honor for her leadership role in the arts, and was recently named one of Musical America’s 30 “Movers and Shapers” for 2017 in recognition of her achievements. Joan was also honored with the Samuel J. L’Hommedieu Award for Outstanding Achievement in Presenter Management from the Broadway League.  She is a trustee of the Business Ethics Alliance, a board member for the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, and is a past board member of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
